The Scoop on

CASU

Get to Know CASU

The College of Arts Student Union, abbreviated to CASU, is a group of elected students tasked with representing and supporting College of Arts undergraduate students.

Each semester, a small fee is levied on all full-time undergraduate students to support CASU's endeavors. Specifically, this fee helps cover college and university-wide events, provide funding to our clubs and groups, and support the daily operations of the union.

Now, what really is CASU? One of CASU's primary focuses is to help manage, organize, and support arts-related clubs on campus through weekly board meetings, marketing, and financial support. You can locate our current arts clubs under the Our Clubs section on our website!

Throughout the year, the CASU executive team meets to plan social events, organize academic supports, and engage in campus-wide student-driven initiatives. Starting with Orientation Week, CASU warmly welcomes new arts Gryphons with a signature event. In the past, CASU ran an O-Week Tie Dye event, and since 2022, this switched to a Brunch on Johnston Green! In past years, CASU has also held Arts Pub Nights each semester and Career Nights, allowing arts students to forge meaningful connections with each other and Arts alumni. CASU also began Build-A-Band, which as of 2022, was reimagined as Battle of the Bands and held in the beloved Bullring on campus! Battle of the Bands allows student bands and performers to showcase their talents in front of a lively audience for the chance to win a Long and McQuade gift card and the coveted title of CASUs Best Band on Campus! In 2022, CASU also hosted a successful Drag Show event featuring the season 2 winner of RuPaul's Canada Drag Race, Icesis Couture. Another CASU tradition is the Can for A Candy Cane food drive each December to raise funds and collect canned food items for a local food bank. In exchange for a cash or food donation students receive a festive candy cane!

The College of Arts is an integral part of the University of Guelph's student culture. Thus, at its core, CASU aims to promote student engagement and representation of the arts on campus.
